Steve Patton reaches the point where Luke finally sets out what Jesus actually taught, the Sermon on the Plain, and reads the beatitudes as a description of the heart Jesus is looking for rather than a social class: poor in spirit, hungry for righteousness, grieved over what sin has done. The woes that follow lead into an extended class discussion about rejection in evangelism and trusting the message itself, and the evening ends on the command to love enemies and seek their good.
