About this sermon

Steve Patton's class reaches the hardest stretch of the Sermon on the Plain, love your enemies, in front of an audience for whom the enemy was the Roman occupation. He distinguishes agape as a determination of the will rather than an affection, sets the golden rule beside a saying of the rabbi Hillel, and spends real time on the log and the speck and on what "judge not" does and does not mean. The last few minutes begin Luke 7 with the centurion whose faith Jesus found nowhere in Israel.
