About this sermon

Picking up at Levi's feast, Steve Patton asks why the Pharisees objected to the company Jesus kept, and shows Jesus answering with a saying of their own rabbis drawn from Exodus. The class then works through the question about fasting, the bridegroom, and the new wine that will not sit in old skins: Jesus preparing his hearers for a change of covenant rather than a repaired Judaism. It closes in the grain fields, on the Sabbath, and on mercy as the higher principle.
