About this sermon
A Wednesday evening class in which Steve Patton finishes Luke's prologue and steps toward the ministry: the two verses given to Jesus' baptism, the genealogy that runs past Abraham all the way to Adam, and why it differs from Matthew's. The wilderness temptations are read as a deliberate echo of Israel's own testing: the same trials, the opposite outcome. It closes at the Nazareth synagogue, where the Isaiah scroll and two Old Testament prophets sent to outsiders turn a hometown crowd murderous.
