About this sermon
Steve Patton reads Luke 2 the way Theophilus would have received it: an obscure birth in a crowded town, a manger because not even Joseph's relatives would make room, and shepherds, the bottom of the social ladder, as the first told. The Wednesday evening class works back through Zechariah's prophecy, notes how carefully Joseph and Mary keep the law of Moses, and treats Simeon and Anna as witnesses Luke calls to the stand, including a member's observation that Simeon sees the glory return to the temple it had left in Ezekiel.
